Bathurst Review

Season 2021 of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup has wrapped up at the holy grail of Australian Motorsport… Bathurst! It was our first visit to The Mountain as part of Carrera Cup and we came away with our first race win and our best Round result to date.

It was a very unconventional race weekend, beginning on the Wednesday and carrying through all the way until Sunday. Two rounds were contested in one weekend over four races. We hit the ground running on Wednesday with a very fast car and this carried through to Qualifying on Wednesday where we got P3 for Round 4 and Pole Position for Round 5!

A tough race one saw us cross the line in P5. Race two on Friday was mostly spent behind the safety car due to a couple of rather large accidents so we finished P5 in that one too.

I was full of confidence leading into Saturday mornings race. The car balance was tuned slightly and we started from Pole for a lights to flag victory! There was a crazy amount of pressure from behind, but we kept our cool, hit our marks and focused purely on the job at hand.

Our final race on Sunday was held just prior to the Great Race with over 1 million people tuning in on Fox Sports to watch the Porsche tackle the mountain. We had a good start and controlled the race early on, but a small mistake saw me damage the front right tyre and weakened our pace. Again, it was just a matter of resetting and making the most of what we had, which saw us cross the line for another Podium finish in P3.

All in all, I am stoked with the weekend. I’ve shown myself what I am capable of and positioned ourselves perfectly for a full blown championship attack in 2022!! Unfortunately, the round at The Bend Motorsport Park next weekend (scheduled to be the last round of the season) was cancelled due to border closures.
