MIDSEASON ANALYSIS!
Six months into 2024! Where has that time gone. Our season so far has been one unlike any other. Juggling my own driving commitments whilst studying, managing Jones Motorsport and building the business, challenges have been thrown my way that I have not yet faced before, but overcoming them have given me purpose and a huge sense of achievement.
I’m proud of the progress we have made. Now three rounds into the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship, we sit first in the standings having claimed five race wins, two pole positions and two round wins so far. There is a long way to go, but I feel at one with the car, a few things have really clicked this year and working with Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport I honestly feel at home. The opening round at the Australian Grand Prix has been one of my career highlights to date. Claiming two race wins across the weekend in front of a huge crowd was pretty special. What made it even better was delivering those results in front of all of the people that have worked tirelessly to get the team back to the front. A pretty strong statement was made that weekend and it’s fueled us for the season to come.
Switching roles to the Team Manager and Engineer of Jones Motorsport, our team on the whole has levelled up massively this year. Ramu Farrell in our #888 Porsche Sprint Challenge entry has delivered some incredible performances each time he hops behind the wheel. Claiming multiple Pro-Am Race wins and podiums, he is a true contender for the Championship and working with him has enabled me to learn a lot about the 991.2 Cup Cars and what they need to perform. Alongside Porsche Sprint Challenge, Mark Darling is competing in the Queensland Production Sports Championship. Recently he claimed his first race win and is atop the Championship standings. We have a big vision for the future, ultimately, we want to run the best team on the grid, create opportunities for our drivers and deliver results at all levels of Porsche Motorsport.
I’ve been studying at The University of Queensland since 2018. Juggling study with sport and work is something I’ve had to get used to. Fortunately, this is my final semester and soon I’ll have my Bachelors degree. It’s taken a long time, but I feel finding synergy between study and work has given me an edge. Lots of the things I’ve learnt in my Engineering studies have been applied directly to my sport and now my Team. Not only do skills and topics transfer, but the work ethic, structure and management taught over the year have paid dividends in all aspects of my life.
A big month of testing awaits us, not just for me, but for Jones Motorsport too. The next round of Carrera Cup is the Sydney Supercars night race in July. Sprint Challenge is running at Queensland Raceway in August, so in the meantime we will be getting our practice in and pushing hard to prepare for a big back half of the season!!
Cheers!
