HARRI JONES CLINCHES 2024 PORSCHE CARRERA CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
Harri Jones has etched his name into the annals of Australian motorsport by becoming just the second driver in history to claim multiple Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championships.
From the outset of the 2024 season, Harri Jones took charge on the track, marked by a series of dominant displays, including a run of seven race wins in a row across events at Sydney, Darwin and Melbourne. Six round wins, 12 race wins, 18 podiums and multiple lap records ultimately propelled him to the top of the standings.
“It’s been my best season yet,” said Jones. “Winning the first race of the year was for sure a highlight, it gave me a huge boost of confidence and we knew early on that our efforts and approach would put us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
Joining forces with Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport at the beginning of the year, the goal was set early to claim the 2024 title.
“There is no question we had just one goal in mind, and this is exactly what drew me to the team,” said Jones. “Everyone onboard was prepared to put in the effort and we maintained such a high intensity all year.”
Team Manager, Matt Cook, signed Jones in early 2024 as part of a restructure of the Melbourne based team.
“2024 marked a defining year for Porsche Centre Melbourne, as we aggressively redefined our approach to motorsport, setting ambitious new goals and taking bold steps to elevate our team to the next level,” said Cook. “A key part of this transformation was the signing of Harri Jones, a driver who not only rose to the challenge but exceeded all expectations, delivering a season of dominance that has left us all in awe.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of Harri and everything he has accomplished this year. His commitment to the team and his craft is unmatched, and his results speak for themselves. Beyond the accolades and records, what stands out most is Harri’s unwavering focus, humility, and passion for racing. He has earned every bit of recognition that has come his way this season.”
The 25-year-olds journey to the top of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia has been nothing short of inspirational. Starting his career at the age of 15, Jones quickly rose through the ranks, winning his first Championship in Australian Formula 3 in 2018, backed up with another Championship in Porsche Sprint Challenge the following year. His transition to the Porsche Carrera Cup was seamless, and when he claimed the title for the first time in 2022, he got the invite to take on the world’s best in Porsche Supercup 2023.
Porsche Supercup is the pinnacle of ‘one-make’ Porsche racing worldwide and competes alongside the FIA Formula 1 Championship at events such as Monaco, Spa and Monza. It was in this Championship that Jones’ skills were refined and prepared him for another attack at his local Carrera Cup Championship.
With the 2024 championship under his belt, Harri Jones is already looking ahead to future challenges. Alongside, Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, his sites are set firmly on a seat in the Repco Supercars Australia Championship which has been the pinnacle of Australian Motorsport for the last 30 years.
“As we head into 2025, there are some big things on the horizon. I’m fuelled by passion and with some firm goals in my sites I won’t stop until the job is done.” Says Jones.
