MEDIA RELEASE: Rising star Harri Jones back on track for Bathurst double header this weekend

After over 140 days of a racing hiatus due to COVID-19, the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship is back with a weekend at Bathurst that promises to be bigger than ever - and Pro Driver, Harri Jones, cannot wait to get back on the grid.

“It’s been over five months since Carrera Cup has been on track, so needless to say, I’ve been thinking about this day for a very long time,” said Jones.

“I’m even more excited about this one because of the twist in the racing format and how much is at stake. Due to COVID, Rounds 4 and 5 of the series will actually take place on the same weekend, making it a double-round with double-points up for grabs as well – so this is a really big weekend.”

Jones, #12, currently sits third in the Championship, having completed three rounds earlier in the year in the HeliMods Porsche GT3. With three rounds still remaining – the double-header at Bathurst, followed by the final round at the Bend the following weekend – it’s still anyone’s game.

Jones has had a great history of racing at Bathurst, one that he hopes to continue this coming weekend.

“I’m in love with Mount Panorama and have had plenty of success there in the past,” said Jones. “I won the GT4 Class in the 2017 Bathurst 12 hour, set the lap record for Heritage Touring Cars, and have shown plenty of pace in the Porsche Cup cars at the previous two Bathurst Challenge events.

“Absolutely nothing beats the feeling of driving around this place in anger.”

Whilst it’s been a long time between races, Jones has certainly not been sitting idol. Since the last race in Townsville back in July, Jones has been working hard with his team, spending countless hours on the simulator and with his coaches to remain race-fit and in peak condition.

“We know what we have to do to win,” said Jones. “Now all we have to do is execute.”

The on-track action starts with Practice this Wednesday 1st December, followed by Qualifying and four races over the course of the weekend – two 30-minute races on the Thursday and Friday respectively, followed by a longer 40-minute race on Saturday and a final 25-minute sprint race on the Sunday, which also makes the start of the Bathurst 1000.

Live broadcast coverage of all the Bathurst races will be on both Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports, with free-to-air coverage across Channel 7.
