Winton Carrera Cup Preview

It’s race week and Round 2 of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship is upon us! We learnt a lot at Round 1, moving higher up the grid in each session and ultimately winning the final race of the weekend. I’m looking forward to carrying that momentum and applying all of our learnings at Winton Motor Raceway (Victoria) this weekend!

The last time I raced at Winton was in 2018 during the Australian Formula 3 Championship. I also did a fair few Formula Ford races at the circuit early in my career so I’m looking forward to getting back there in the Porsche! We had quite a lot of success at Winton in Formula 3, winning two of the three races. Hopefully we can pick up right where we left off.

Winton is a tight, technical and twisty race track with a lot of variety. Ultimately, Qualifying is going to be the most important session of the weekend and with 31 cars on the grid, the racing is guaranteed to be action packed. One new challenge that all of the drivers will face this weekend is a shorter 10 minute Qualifying session (normally its 20 minutes). One saving grace is during our 10 minute session, only Pro drivers will be on the circuit so traffic shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m feeling great heading into this weekend. The whole team had a fantastic two day test at Darwin a few weeks ago and we really hit the nail on the head with the setup up there. Given the Hidden Valley track has similar characteristics to Winton, everything we found up there should help us down south too! Now I’m just craving some more racing!!!

As always, Qualifying and the Races will be televised and streamed LIVE on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo. Check out the schedule below. If you’re spectating at the track I’d love to see you, so come say hi and check out the Hastings Deering Porsche GT3!

Cheers!!
