Australian Grand Prix Preview

Finally the wait is over and Round 1 of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship is upon us! We are kicking it off in style at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. It will be a record setting weekend with 31 brand new Porsche 992 Cup Cars joining the grid, and I can’t wait to be in the thick of the action.

Two years ago the 2020 Australian Grand Prix was cancelled on the Friday morning due to the Covid-19 Outbreak. However… Carrera Cup sneaked practice, qualifying and a race in on the Thursday! It was a strange weekend for sure, but at least we had some decent track time. This year we have to contend with a few layout changes along with a complete track resurfacing. I’m lucky enough to have spent some time on a Simulator to practice the new layout, and I can tell you it is fast!

Our preseason program has been fantastic. I am in love with the new car and the team and I have been very busy learning all we can to ensure we hit the ground running this weekend. On the back of a very strong year last year, placing third in the championship and claiming a race win at Bathurst, I’m confident we will have a great chance to claim the title this year. However, there is no room for complacency. The competition in Carrera Cup is stronger than ever. Of the 31 cars on the grid, there are 19 Pro ranked drivers. This season will be a long fight and is going to be about consistency and perfect execution of our process’.

Personally, I am feeling fitter and stronger than ever thanks to the team at Athletic Republic. Ever since we started our training program last year, our focus and fitness behind the wheel has improved massively. We fight for every 1% gain we can find and if we continue to have the same approach in every aspect of the sport, I am sure we will find ourselves in a great position at the end of the year.

As always, Qualifying and the Races will be televised and streamed LIVE on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo, as well as that all action from Friday onwards will be televised free to air on Channel 10. Check out the schedule below. If you’re spectating at the track I’d love to see you, so come say hi and check out the Hastings Deering Porsche GT3!

Cheers!!
